August Tye (founding Artistic Director)
Ms. Tye began her dance training with former Royal Winnipeg Ballet member, Therese Bullard in Kalamazoo MI.. She studied ballet, modern, highland dance, Irish dance, and performed with The Kalamazoo Ballet Company where she danced lead roles in Sleeping Beauty, Cinderella, and The Nutcracker. At the age of 15 she was awarded Best Young Choreographer through Regional Dance America. Ms. Tye is a two-time recipient of the Monticello choreographers award which has garnered her invitations to choreograph on companies throughout the country. In 1991 Tye moved to Chicago and trained at the Joel Hall Dance Center. While in Chicago Tye has danced with the Lyric Opera of Chicago, the Joel Hall Dancers, Salt Creek Ballet, and Second City Ballet. In 1993 Tye founded The Hyde Park School of Ballet where she is the artistic director and a principal instructor of ballet. The Hyde Park School of Ballet was honored as Partners at the Barre with the Joffrey Ballet of Chicago in 1998. In 1997 Tye founded Tyego Dance Project with her sister Aimee Tye as principal dancer. Ms. Tye worked with the Lyric Opera of Chicago 04/05 season as assistant choreographer to Patricia Birch on the world premiere of Robert Altman's A Wedding. In 05/06 Tye took the position of Ballet Mistress at the Lyric Opera of Chicago where she has had the pleasure of working with choreographers, Lucinda Childs, Jane Comfort, Paul Curran, Andrew George, Philippe Giraudeau, , Wayne McGregor and Danny Pelzig. Ms. Tye will be the revival choreographer for the Lyric Opera’s production of Eugene Onegin in 2008.
Aimee Tye (Artistic Director)began training at the Bullard School of Ballet and the Kalamazoo Ballet Company. She studied ballet, modern, highland dance, Irish dance, and performed with The Kalamazoo Ballet Company where she danced lead roles in Sleeping Beauty, Cinderella, Swan Lake and The Nutcracker. She also studied at the Royal Winnipeg Ballet's Professional School for two years. She became a member of the Metropolitan Ballet Theatre of Detroit for the 1993-94 season. In 1994 Ms. Tye moved to Chicago to join the Hyde Park School of Ballet faculty and the Joel Hall Dance Center Faculty. AimeeTye danced with Joel Hall Dancers for 5 years in addition to being a principal performing artist with Tyego Dance Project. In 2002 Ms. Tye finished her degree in massage therapy at the Soma Institute.
Sarah Ford (Artistic Director) is the newest member of the Tyego artistic team. She has been a performing artist with TDP since 1999 and recently collaborated with her dance company, Nucleus Dance Collective and TDP at the Herald Washington Library in Chicago to create Melange a full length concert featuring both companies. Ms. Ford is originally from Georgetown, Kentucky. She began her dance training at age 8 at the Lexington Ballet under the direction of Karl Kaufman. She obtained a BFA in dance from the Cincinnati Conservatory of Music in 1997. Ms. Ford has studied Ballet, Horton, Graham, Dunham, Tap, Jazz, Hip Hop, Salsa, and Improvisation. She is currently a performing member of Deeply Rooted Dance Theater. She is associate Artistic Director of The Hyde Park School of Ballet and has taught at Ballet Chicago, Joel Hall Dance Center, Midwest Dance Center, Dixon Dance Academy, and Harper College. She has also taught residencies in dance and choreography in Gillette, WY, Salina, KS, and Memphis, TN.
